point muay thai REFEREE info & App
In Point Muay Thai the Referee plays an important role in keeping the fighters safe through verbal, hand gestures, pausing the fight, giving warnings, and calling a bout a no contest. Each bout should start by bring each participant to the middle and reminding them that this is semi contact, to not hurt one another and making them touch gloves in a sign of respect. We need to make them understand this is for self growth and not to injure the other person, or they will be disqualified.
There are no Knockouts and, or Technical Knockouts. The referee is responsible for ensuring neither participant gets injured. Some scenarios where a bout could be paused to check on participants could be:
— If a fighter take multiple head shots in a row -> make sure they are ok, say to defend your self and move, to the other, state that its limited contact to head, hit body and legs more or the bout will have to be stopped due to safety.
— A participant throws a strike that missed but could have possibly knocked out the opponent -> Pause the bout and either verbal or hand signal the participant to lighten up, breath, relax.
If a fighter quits, ( for example due to exhaustion) this will give a win to his or her opponent by DEFAULT.
— The ref will be responsible for noticing a potential dangerous situation. Lets say the participant in exhausted and cant defend himself properly, give a couple warnings and pause the bout. But after a few times the ref can stop the bout and give the win to the other participant. This can prevents an injury from occurring.
Any Knockout will result in Disqualification of the striker.
— it is also the responsibility of the participants to protect one another. They know the rules, so if they stun or knock down their opponent from too much contact, a no contest should be given to each fighter. Of course the other fighter will likely want to continue, however once the line is crossed the bout can no longer continue.
There are some exceptions to a person stopping or faking a knockout.
— if someone is accidentally knocked out due to a well placed technical strike at semi-contact power, it will be considered by the judges if a no contests should be given. This could be applicable for an accident occurring at the very end, and both were tired. very rarely does this happen. usually the ref can see that to much contact is taking place and prevent any injury from taking place.
HAND & FOOT STRIKES to the HEAD - SEMI CONTACT ONLY!!!
kicks are very strong, so reminding participants to calm down on the power level is ok. if they miss a kick and it seemed to heavy for PMT alwasy communicat verbally or hand gesture.
The Official IKF/PMT Ring Referee or the IKF/PMT Ringside Representative, may penalized by points or disqualify the striker.
No kicks or punches in the back spine area, groin or knee joints.
Faking and, or over exaggerating a blow will be closely monitored.
CLINCH
We want fighter to work in the clinch, do not break the clinch so quickly. Practice in the clinch is essential for their growth and also safer. So allow ample time for them to work.
If there is a stale mate mate for a few seconds then can break the clinch.
If a fighters posture is broken (bending at the hips) & they begin taking multiple knees, break the clinch for safety.
Closely monitor the clinch and look for any accidental groin strikes, heal trips, hip throws.
if a fighter is pulling down on the head to hard you can tell them to stop before a accidental knee to the head happens
If a fighter is consistently ducking out of the clinch you can tell them to stop before an accidental knee to head happens
